Completing school or college is a relief for some people – the end of tests, assessments, exams and all that stress. But leaving school is where real education begins and continues throughout your life. This time, you are more in control, you decide what skills you need to achieve happiness, success and life in abundance.

It is even more important for immigrants in London to develop their skills. The slowing factor to achieve a successful career in England is that your education and work experience may not be easily transferable. The first step is to get relevant certificates, or qualifications so that they are recognizable by English employers. Whether you are an electrician, a lawyer, a nurse, an accountant or an IT technician, laws and conventions may be different from your home country so you need to adjust your knowledge to the local standards.

And what about cultural differences in the workplace? Do you remember about saying ‘How are you?’ and giving a smile, small talk about the weather or complaining about the tube service, telephone manners, Friday evening at the pub, and the extra pair of flat shoes in the handbag to change from high heels? Each profession may have some specific rules of conduct and it’s worth learning about them so you can put your best foot forward.

Everyone comes to London for a reason. Whatever the reason, developing your personal skills will help you to improve your quality of life. Learning about leadership, self-actualization, confidence, creativity and motivation will give you tools that can help you in building your career as well as enhancing your personal life. Discover your weaknesses and strengths, improve your communication skills and body language, and in no time you you will reach your goals!

Larry Winget is quite a controversial personal development speaker but maybe because he is hard to listen to and painfully honest. In his speech ‘Success is your own damn fault’, which you can find on www.success.tv, he says:

‘It’s not that hard to be successful, have money and have fun in your life’.

After having read thousands of book he learnt that there are just few good ideas on how to become successful. One of them is taking responsibility and being flexible.

So why than people are NOT successful? Larry Winget says because they are whether stupid, lazy or just don’t care. It’s difficult to disagree with it, isn’t it?

Not only educational but also entertaining video of Larry Winget’s speech you can watch on www.success.tv/latestvideos.

When we start a new project, task, or habit we are full of energy and enthusiasm. Sometimes we would like to achieve our goal straight away – run 10 miles, have a flat belly, speak a foreign language, learn a new skill and so on. As we know, to achieve such things we need to constantly repeat exercises for months to achieve our goal.

There are times when we feel anxiety and doubt. So how to stay motivated when we start lacking this first enthusiasm? Here are a few tips:

Think about and visualize your goal every day. Before getting up, on the train to work, in a queue, and so on.

Made it very clear to yourself why you want to achieve you goal. Have a clear vision where you want to be in the future. Focus.

Boost your confidence. Make notes of your progress. When you feel that you’re not getting where you want to be fast enough (which can be discouraging), you will have always proof that you do move forward. You have already achieved so much!

Join a forum or group with the same interests. Then, you can motivate each other.

You had one bad day so you took a break from your plan. Don’t make it two days in a row!

Prepare yourself for the bad days. Think of moments which can de-motivate you, so when they come you know how to fight with them.

Stop finding excuses why you can’t take action to achieve your goals.

Think positive – it really works!

“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.”
Mark Victor Hansen

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain

There may be a moment in your life where you struggle with living your life happily. You have problems with repaying your mortgage, your job is not satisfying or your business failed, you have misunderstandings and arguments with your partner. So you work harder and harder, but you just get more stressed and tired. You feel that you are hitting the wall and not moving forward. You may think that the world has turned against you and feel that something has to change.

This is the time where an honest chat to a friend or a family member may not be enough. Somebody impartial needs to have a look at your life, someone who does not have emotional connection to you and your affairs. This is when you need to go to a professional life coach. He or she will help you to find what you really want by asking you very specific questions and analysing them with you, and then guide you to get results.

A life coach will help you to decide what is important in your life and where you need to put your effort. You will learn how you can change your life in a positive way and get where you really want to be. Very soon you will see results in your life. You will get back your life-balance, with enthusiasm for your real passions.

There are some great websites where you can find out more about personal coaching:

Thinking about going into business? Why not listen to what experts and entrepreneurs have to say about the future of business in the coming year.

If you don’t have an idea yet of what kind of business you would like to develop you may find some inspiration here. Read and learn.

10 Big Marketing Predictions For 2010 David Siteman Garland

2010 is going to be an incredible year for marketing. Now, of course I don’t have a crystal ball (or do I…insert creepy music here) but the shift is unmistakable and can’t be ignored.

The days of hit and miss expensive marketing and advertising are OVER. I’ll pause for a moment of silence. But with this big change, comes a tremendous creative opportunity for small and big businesses alike.

Big brands, niche brands and entrepreneurs that survived the storm of 2009 are in an exciting position for 2010. It is going to be a time where innovative and change in marketing is going to flourish. Marketing is going to be cheaper, faster and smarter. Read more here.

Make Smarter Marketing Bets in 2010 – Steve McKee explains why it’s worth strategizing now for three different economic scenarios next year

Things have been going so poorly for so long that any of us could be forgiven for thinking recession is the new normal. The economy has been in decline for 22 months, and as we head into 2010 many pundits assume things are going to continue as they are—or maybe get even worse. Others figure 2010 can’t be anything but better than 2009 and recommend business leaders plan accordingly. Read more here.

10 Personal Branding Predictions for 2010 by Dan Schawbel

Each year, I give my personal branding predictions in the December time frame, but this year, people are starting to ask me about the future earlier. In 2008, the focus was on behavior changes and in 2009, I concentrated on the economy and the struggle to protect your brand at all costs. This year, I’ve been analyzing a lot of trends that will have a major impact on our careers and how companies will manage, retain and recruit employees moving forward. A lot of my predictions involve technology because people have already started changing their behavior, but technology is going to open up even more opportunities. Read more here.
